Forest Rock Boulders!

Where did your weekend take you? We went for a little exploratory mini adventure to Leicestershire in search of some boulders we’d heard of but not seen. It’s amazing when you realise you’ve got a few hours free in the afternoon and you can head out for a climb. Even better when you’re going to somewhere you’ve not been before and everything will be new and shiny.   We’d managed to find some directions here: http://www.leicestershireclimbs.co.uk/index.php/forest-rock.html and proceeded to head out in the direction of Leicester. Making good time we were psyched to find these rocks and get our climbing shoes on. There was just one problem – we had found the wrong Forest Rock. Weirdly, there is actually a Forest Rock pub and a Bulls Head pub just 10 minutes away from Forest Rock crag and the other Bulls Head pub (The Old Bulls Head). So we spent about an hour walking into fields, squinting at the horizon sometimes thinking we had spotted this mystic place we sought. Almost giving up we decided to try the other direction on the road and eventually found the war memorial mentioned in the directions. Spurred on with new information and barings we walked around and then found this monster (photo above) quietly tucked away from view just 25 metres from the road and underneath someone’s back garden! Its a really lovely spot and perfect for an afternoon, a really nice outcrop with a superb range of problems. Plenty of routes to be had, sport climbing, bouldering and possibly trad too. If you take a trip there just be courteous to the neighbours... read more

Joining the Pitch team

Joining the Pitch team is very exciting for me as I will be part of a group who share the same passion for climbing as I do.  Wearing the Pitch gear will be great too as it will be great for everyone to see and will also glamour my look!!   I am hoping to inspire children to start climbing and for others to stick at it as there are lots of different things to try and challenge yourself with, even for children who don’t have a climbing or sporty family.   During my time climbing I have progressed massively as I am already lead climbing indoors ready for future youth competitions, although I would prefer just to boulder all the time.   The one thing I would like to do more of is outdoor bouldering, this summer I want to try my indoor techniques outdoors.  When I do get outdoors I hope to tick off a few harder routes now I have a peak bouldering book to check out the grades – Keris Moore, Age 10 Read my profile... read more
